Jagielka looks set to miss out on the club’s two-day tour of Germany
Phil Jagielka’s difficult pre-season looks set to continue, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that the defender is set to miss Everton’s pre-season trip to Germany this weekend.
The Toffees will spend two days competing at the DDV-Stadion in the Dresden Cup, where they play local outfit Dynamo Dresden on Friday night before taking on Real Betis or Werder Bremen on Saturday lunchtime.
Everton boss Ronald Koeman is set to take a squad of 25 players for the tournament and says he intends to field two different sides in order to cope with the quick turnaround of games.
However, captain Jagielka looks set to stay on Merseyside, having suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury during training last week.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Koeman said: “Players cannot play Friday evening and then 1:30pm on a Saturday afternoon, that’s impossible. We’ll take 24-25 players.
“Phil Jagielka will not go, he’s not fit.”
The 33-year-old’s hamstring problems saw him miss much of the end of last season, although a painkilling injection meant he was able to play in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United.
Having subsequently missed out on a place in England’s Euro 2016 squad, Jagielka is yet to make a pre-season appearance for Everton this summer.
