Wilson ended a six-month injury lay-off at Aston Villa on Saturday and is keen to finish top of the Cherries’ goalscoring charts.
“I’m back in the hunt to finish leading goalscorer – I’m only one behind! The goals have been shared around to be fair so I haven’t given the boys any stick over that.”
Despite his lengthy absence, Wilson is just one behind leading scorer Josh King, who scored the second goal at Villa Park after Steve Cook’s opener.
And Cook could not hide his delight at seeing Wilson make his comeback, admitting that his return to action was an emotional moment.
He said: “It’s really great to see Callum back after all that he’s been through. When he came on and hearing the fans cheer. To be honest, it gave me goosebumps.”
Wilson’s return came against a backdrop of misery and discontent at Villa Park, with the home faithful once again using Saturday’s defeat to protest against the running of the club by Randy Lerner.
Only Norwich’s defeat to Crystal Palace prevented Villa’s first relegation in nearly 30 years being confirmed, and Cook admits their demise has come as a surprise.
“We owed Villa one after losing in the first match of the season,” he added. “To think that they are going down is amazing really.
“It’s a shame because these are the stadiums you want to play in but today was one of the strangest atmospheres I’ve ever played in.”
