Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has told the London Evening Standard that he has been impressed by Michy Batshuayi’s start to life at Stamford Bridge, adding that boss Antonio Conte will find it hard to drop the striker on his current form.

Batshuayi, who joined from Marseille for £33.1 million in the summer, came off the bench to provide an assist for Diego Costa against West Ham United in their Premier League opener, and scored the equaliser in the Blues’ 2-1 comeback win over Watford at the weekend.

The Belgian international’s crucial contributions have helped spearhead Chelsea’s 100 per cent start to the season, and his eye-catching performances have already made an impression on his teammates, including countryman Courtois.

The keeper told the London Evening Standard: “It’s very good for him, I’m happy for him. Obviously he has to have a bit of patience with a top striker like Diego in front of him.

“But if he comes on and keeps making the difference like this, he makes it hard for the coach [to leave him out].

“Each time he came on he’s been sharp, he was there in the right place and was a real danger.”

Batshuayi will himself be delighted to have got his Premier League career off to such a strong start, having arrived at Stamford Bridge with a big reputation.

A record of 26 goals in 62 appearances for Marseille saw him attract the attention of Chelsea, who will be hoping the forward can achieve similar figures this season as they look to return to the summit of English football.
