The France international spoke briefly about his compatriot following the triumph in the French Cup.
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi has defended Mamadou Sakho after the Liverpool centre-back tested positive for a banned substance, according to a report in L’Equipe.
As reported by the Daily Telegraph, Sakho could now face a lengthy ban after failing a drugs test after the Europa League last-16 clash with Premier League rivals Manchester United on March 17.
According to reports, the former PSG defender tested positive for a prohibited substance, believed to be a ‘fat-burning’ weight loss aid.
The 26-year-old has until Tuesday to respond to the charges and could face a six-month world football ban if found guilty when considering similar instances.
In spite of the charges, international team-mate Matuidi has provided Sakho with his backing.
Speaking after PSG’s 2-1 Coupe de la Ligue win over Lille, the midfielder is quoted as saying by L’Equipe: “I can only say that if it was proved (to be true), I would be sad for him because I know him. He’s like a brother, someone good (and) clean.”
