Taylor Fritz was the butt of a joke at the Dallas Open, where many fans donned his signature headband.

Fritz was welcomed onto the court for his first round match against Marcos Giron by several supporters all part of one big joke.

They wore his BOSS headband, which he accidentally wore upside down during his 2025 US Open match against Novak Djokovic.

BOSS dished out the headbands as part of the light-hearted incident, which didn’t impact Fritz too much as he won the match.

Taylor Fritz sees funny side of Dallas Open headband joke

Fritz, who has since reached the quarterfinals of the Dallas Open, said on court after beating Giron: “It’s crazy tonight!

“Everywhere I look everyone’s dressed like me. After what happened at the Open, I’m not surprised.”

He battled past his fellow American Giron 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(7-1), before defeating their compatriot Brandon Nakashima 6-3, 6-4.

Fritz, who is the top seed at the ATP 500 tournament in Dallas, now meets another American, Sebastian Korda.

Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton among Americans chasing Dallas success

The Dallas Open field is dominated by American players, so fans should be confident of a home champion.

The likes of Learner Tien, Michael Zheng and Frances Tiafoe have bowed out, but the likes of Fritz, Korda, Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton remain.

Looking to spoil the party, however, are European talents such as Adrian Mannarino and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

An American ATP champion would be warmly welcomed by American fans, who have instead been witnessing plenty of success for such players on the WTA Tour.

It has been particularly painful at Grand Slams, with Andy Roddick’s 2003 US Open win representing the last time an American man won a major title.

In stark contrast, American women Madison Keys and Coco Gauff won the Australian Open and French Open respectively just last year, while Amanda Anisimova was runner-up at Wimbledon and the US Open.
