Aston Villa icon Ian Taylor has told the Daily Express that his former side will miss injured stars Jonathan Kodjia and John Terry as the busy Christmas period begins.

Villa face Championship heavyweights Leeds United on Friday night at Elland Road and will be confident of their chances after winning their last three matches, while the Whites have suffered eight defeats in their last 11.

However, Thomas Christiansen’s Leeds have regrouped of late and won two of their last three – beating Middlesbrough and Barnsley but losing 4-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Former Villa midfielder Taylor stated that the loss of the club’s two senior stars could affect their promotion hunt, which sees them currently sit in fourth place. He also claimed that Friday night’s clash will be difficult and expects Leeds to be there or thereabouts come May 2018.

I think it’s going to be a difficult game,” Taylor said. “I know that because Leeds are doing okay, we’re doing okay It’s away from home, it’s against one of the teams that have been fancied to make a challenge to go up so it would be nice to win.

“I think we’ve still got a bit of work to do [to achieve promotion] but over the amount of games that we are going to play the likes of John Terry and Jonathan Kodjia could be a miss. We’ll have to wait and see.”

Terry, 36, has been sidelined since the start of November after breaking his fifth metatarsal against Sheffield Wednesday, while striker Kodjia is suffering with an ankle problem which he picked up while on international duty.

They join a number of players on the sidelines at Villa, including Gabriel Agbonlahor, Scott Hogan and most recently Australia international MIle Jedinak.

Three points for Villa would see them move into third for the time being, with Sheffield United going up against Millwall on Saturday. A tenth league win of the season for Leeds could see them climb into sixth, if they win by more than three goals.
