Leeds United are reportedly keen on Pierre-Michel Lasogga.
Leeds United’s search for a new striker has taken them to Germany, with Thomas Christiansen’s men targeting a deal for Hamburg striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga.
Speculation surrounds the future of Chris Wood, but even if Wood’s future was secure, another striker is needed given that Caleb Ekuban is something of an unknown quantity, and Marcus Antonsson has been loaned out to Blackburn Rovers.
Now, Leeds are looking to land Hamburg’s Lasogga, who has been pushed down the pecking order by the signing of Andre Hahn from Borussia Monchengladbach, and could look to leave before this month’s transfer deadline.
Confusion does somewhat surround Lasogga’s possible move to Leeds; the Daily Mail reported on Saturday that Lasogga had touched down in Leeds before the 0-0 draw with Preston North End in order to finalise a loan deal, though Hamburger Abendblatt now claim that there could be a problem over wages.
If Leeds can tie up a deal for Lasogga, it would be a major coup for Christiansen and co. It’s only two years ago that the Daily Mail claimed that Newcastle United were bidding to bring Lasogga to the Premier League in a £7million swoop, but that deal didn’t go through late in the transfer window.
A former German Under-21 international, Lasogga has a decent goalscoring record for Hamburg with 30 goals in 109 games for the Bundesliga side, showing real quality during a 15-goal campaign in the 2013/14 season.
Primarily a target man with superb strength and aerial ability, Lasogga could be a consistent goalscorer that Leeds are looking for, and a major coup given his recent links with moves to the Premier League.
His move to Newcastle may have fallen through in 2015, but two years on, he could now provide Leeds with ammunition to get back to the Premier League – and that may ultimately be the best move for him at this stage of his career.
