Yves Bissouma arguably produced his best performance in a Tottenham shirt during Sunday’s defeat to Liverpool, after his move from Brighton – and has earned praise from Tanguy Ndombele on Instagram, following the loss at Anfield.
Bissouma, 26, is quickly establishing himself as a player that Antonio Conte can trust at Spurs. Signed from Brighton in the summer, he started off slowly – starting just once in Tottenham’s first eight League games. That has changed.
But in the next six games, Bissouma has started five of the last six Premier League matches. He is expected to get an eighth start in all competitions on Wednesday night, when Spurs take on Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.
Especially, after he starred on Sunday against Liverpool. Bissouma was excellent, notably his ability to turn on the ball and find an opponent – transitioning Spurs from defence and into the final third. He posted on Instagram.
Bissouma earns Ndombele praise after Tottenham defeat to Liverpool
Bissouma was superb. But for Spurs on the whole, it was another example of Spurs playing poorly in the first half – and then improving, as they were forced to chase the game. The second 45 was promising, but they did not equalise.
That is despite having numerous chances and hitting the woodwork on two occasions. But there were positives to take from the Spurs display and even Antonio Conte, normally disappointed after a loss, was upbeat following the match.
Unfortunately, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is one of the first names on the team sheet. Rodrigo Bentancur is one of the club’s most in-form players. So, £86k-a-week Bissouma will struggle to start regularly if Antonio Conte plays a 3-4-3 system.
But, with Deki Kulusevski and Richarlison being injured of late, it has seen Conte revert to a 3-5-2 system. That has seen Bissouma come in and he has grasped the opportunity with both hands. Even Ndombele has been impressed.
