Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham has reportedly turned down the chance to join Wolverhampton Wanderers.
A lot was expected of Scott Hogan when he walked through the doors of Bodymoor Heath two years ago, but the Aston Villa striker has found life tough from the get-go.
The 26-year-old senior player signed in 2017 from Brentford when Steve Bruce was the Villa manager but he managed only 10 goals under his stewardship.
Many felt, and rightly so, that Bruce’s robust tactics did not suit Hogan’s style of play, with the Salford-born player used to his teammates playing higher up the pitch and feeding balls through the middle as well as from out wide.
Nonetheless, when Hogan’s former manager Dean Smith walked through the doors of Villa Park in October, no-one would have been more delighted than the out-of-form striker.
Despite potentially losing such a key player in Tammy Abraham this month, Hogan would have been one of the players that would have benefited from the Chelsea loanees reported departure.
Sky Sports claimed on Tuesday that the 21-year-old had rejected the chance to join Premier League side Wolves and instead see out the rest of his loan spell at Villa Park.
In the midst of Abraham potentially leaving, Hogan was given his first start by Smith during Villa’s 3-0 defeat to Swansea City in the FA Cup at the weekend.
Now, the former Brentford player will have to return to the bench and no-one, if anyone, will be more disappointed at the reported transfer twist because it means less game time for the Villa man.
Abraham has netted 16 goals this season and nothing, barring injury and him leaving the club, will remove him from the starting XI as Hogan will have to play second fiddle to his in-form teammate once again.
