Jed Steer was the hero as Aston Villa moved into the playoff final by beating West Bromwich Albion.
Tammy Abraham was the man who fired Aston Villa into the playoff final on Tuesday, but he wasn’t strcitly the hero of the night.
Aston Villa lost 1-0 to West Bromwich Albion on the night, but Dean Smith’s side booked their spot at Wembley with a penalty shootout win over Albion at The Hawthorns.
Abraham scored the decisive penalty, but the Chelsea loanee and many others are left praising Villans goalkeeper Jed Steer.
Steer laid the foundations for Villa’s victory by saving the Baggies’ first two efforts from Mason Holgate and Ahmed Hegazy during the shootout.
And Abraham was left drooling over his team-mate afterwards.
He told Aston Villa’s official website: “What a keeper! What a keeper! What a performance. Terrific. For my own penalty, I am used to the pressure. I like the pressure.
“But it’s not down to me. It’s down to Jed. What a performance in the shoot-out. He was brilliant.”
What a bizarre season it’s been for the 26-year-old, who was on loan with League One outfit Charlton Athletic until January.
And he might have stayed in London if not for an injury to Orjan Nyland, prompting Smith to recall him.
Since coming back, Steer has started 16 Championship games for the West Midlands outfit, and hopefully for Villa his last one of the season is also a win.
