Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has claimed on Sky Sports News (7:49pm, August 16, 2021) that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is upset that the club could not sign Tammy Abraham from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Solhekol has added that Abraham is now on the verge of leaving Chelsea for AS Roma.

The journalist said about Abraham on Sky Sports News (7:49pm, August 16, 2021): “Mikel Arteta wanted him, and we have been told today that Mikel Arteta is upset about the fact that Arsenal didn’t get Tammy Abraham and he has gone to Roma.”

Arsenal interest

The Athletic reported over the weekend that Chelsea striker Abraham will join Roma for £34 million.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is now the manager of the Italian club.

Arsenal wanted to sign the England international striker, but the North London club did not make an offer.

The 23-year-old himself was telling his Chelsea teammates that he wanted to move to Arsenal, according to the report.

Blow for Arsenal?

Arsenal do have a good strike-force – on paper at least.

However, the Gunners could have done – or could do – with a younger and dynamic striker such as Abraham in their squad.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is 32 and struggled to score regularly last season, Alexandre Lacazette has one year left on his contract, it has simply not happened for Eddie Nketiah yet, and Folarin Balogun is only 20.

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal bring in a new striker now after missing out on Abraham.
