Chelsea’s Abraham is impressing on loan to Bristol City, but would his career be best left in the hands of Tottenham Hotspur?

Young, English and seemingly hungry to improve. I could be describing a number of Tottenham Hotspur players, only I’m not.

Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham also fits the above description, and further enhanced his blossoming reputation with two goals on his very first start for England’s Under-21s.

The 18-year-old has already struck 11 goals in 14 games for Bristol City, in what is his first ever taste of senior football, and will remain at Ashton Gate until the end of the campaign.

But what then? However good he’s been, or may proceed to be over the next seven months, it’s hard to see him walking into Chelsea’s plans in a hurry.

Uncertainty over the futures of Diego Costa and Michy Batshuayi perhaps offers Abraham a smidgen of hope, but the chances are he’ll be farmed out again next term. A host of Championship clubs will want him, as will may in the Premier League and, naturally, Vitesse Arnhem.

The best place however, would almost certainly be White Hart Lane. Harry Kane’s recent injury has justified Tottenham’s decision to seek striking reinforcements during the summer transfer window, however his intended stand-in Vincent Janssen has struggled to make an impression, at least in terms of goals.

The Dutchman’s displays – for both club and country – suggest that Spurs should, and will, persevere with their £17 million investment. However, it would not be a surprise if Mauricio Pochettino sought to cut his losses next summer, especially if there’s a replacement at the ready.

Clinton N’Jie will certainly testify, as would Federico Fazio and Benjamin Stambouli.

The main problem Tottenham face is getting Chelsea to sell to them, of course, although the progress of Kane, Alli, Dier, Walker, Rose and several other young Englishmen to have played under Pochettino should ensure that Abraham would need little convincing.
