Tammy Abraham has labelled John Terry a ‘legend’ on Instagram after the news broke on Monday that he has left Aston Villa.
The duo worked alongside each other at Villa Park, including helping the Midlands club earn promotion to the Premier League in 2019.
And whilst Villa fans talk about a potential Abraham return this summer, one man that won’t be there next season is Terry.
He posted this heartfelt message to the club after yesterday’s announcement and several current and ex-players responded.
Patrice Evra wrote in the comments section: ‘Wishing you the best for your new challenge captain’.
Whilst Emi Martinez added by saying: ‘We will miss you mate. Top coach’. Anwar El Ghazi told the former centre-back that it was a ‘pleasure’ working with him.
Villa legend, Paul McGrath, added by saying: ‘Thanks for everything you have done for Aston Villa. Always had a lot of respect for you kid. Best of luck in the rest of your career’.
Terry was with Villa when they suffered play-off heartache against Fulham, but 12 months later, he was part of the coaching staff that turned that nightmare day into a dream one.
Villa’s return to the promised land wasn’t a pleasant one and pretty tough given the big change over of players at the club.
But last season, the Midlands side’s defence was one of their standout qualities, as Dean Smith’s improving team looked a different animal.
And whilst Terry won’t be in the dugout now. Charging for European football ahead of the new campaign will still be the aim.
The Villa manager himself, Richard O’Kelly and Craig Shakespeare are still at the helm and raring to push the club even further forward.
