Chelsea star Tammy Abraham can be a legitimate challenger to Harry Kane

Harry Kane has been entrenched as Tottenham and England’s starter for the best part of the last three seasons.

He has not had any real competition for either. At international level that is about to change.

The prolific form of Tammy Abraham for Chelsea is already pushing him into the international reckoning.

Abraham is a player in form, and has led Chelsea’s recent resurgence under Frank Lampard.

Already this season the young striker has seven goals in the Premier League.

This is four more than Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

Kane remains a clear first choice for England, but Abraham’s form will begin to put this under threat.

Kane may not be an automatic starter and he will have to raise his game accordingly.

Positive

Ultimately this is good for Kane, England, and Tottenham.

One of the worst potential situations for Kane would be if he got complacent, even sub-consciously, and started to simply assume he is a guaranteed starter no matter what.

All players need competition and Kane is not different. Finally it looks like he has it.

In a season with an international tournament at it’s end, Kane has to kick on. Abraham’s form should provide him with extra motivation.
