The 21-year-old England ace is believed to be on the Bundesliga side’s radar.
Aston Villa loanee Tammy Abraham has been sensational for the Championship club this season, scoring 21 goals and claiming two assists in just 29 league games.
The 21-year-old, on Chelsea’s books, has in fact been prolific for most of his career so far, as can be seen with his 26-goal loan stint at Bristol City or his impressive record with the Blues’ youth squads (Transfermarkt).
However, first-team football at Stamford Bridge continues to elude the striker, and as such he has been linked with a move to the Bundesliga, where a lot of his fellow English youngsters have moved to in recent years.
According to The Sun, Abraham is on the radar of RB Leipzig, thought to be the latest German club hoping to come across a seldom-played gem in England like Borussia Dortmund have with Jadon Sancho.
However, many of those players who have made the switch to Germany in recent years were struggling for first-team action on these shores and as such were hoping for their major breakthrough, while Abraham has already proven he’s more than capable of first-team football in England.
Admittedly, his spell with Swansea City may have not yielded as prolific a record as he’d have liked, not to mention a relegation on his CV, but eight goals and five assists for a seriously struggling side is still impressive.
Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens should pull out all the stops this summer and move for Abraham, who in turn should consider staying put at Villa Park.
If Villa get promoted this term, Abraham would be a huge asset in the Premier League, especially given he wouldn’t need to bed into the team and has already played in the top flight, not to mention he would be eager to show his lukewarm Swansea spell wasn’t his fault.
If Villa remain in the Championship, his signing would be a huge statement of intent by the club – it would send the fanbase into a frenzy, delight the current Villa players, potentially inspire more top players to link up and provide a springboard for a real promotion tilt in 2019-20.
As for Abraham, he would benefit from some stability, permanently staying put at one club as an antidote to his nomadic Chelsea experience, where he knows the players and staff well, with the real prospect of Premier League first-team football either next season or the one after, a historic team on his CV, and a fanbase that adores him.
