Kenny Miller has been critical of Tottenham youngster Troy Parrott for his ‘tame’ and costly effort during the Republic of Ireland’s 2-1 UEFA Nations League defeat to Scotland.
When the scores were level 1-1 at Hampden, Michael Obafemi’s powerful run on the counter resulted in his pass finding Parrott being through on goal and with a guilt-edge chance to put his side ahead again.
The 20-year-old ended up squirming his shot and then hitting his effort straight at Craig Gordon in between the sticks.

It ended up proving to be costly for the loaned-out Preston star because Ryan Christie went on to score the winner from the penalty spot.
Former Scotland international Miller was pleased with his side’s crucial three points, as he reacted to that costly moment from Parrott, as he told Sky Sports News.
“It wasn’t quite a scintillating performance from Scotland compared to what they put on against Ukraine,” said Miller.
“But it was still a controlled performance, where they got their goals at the right time and from good moments.
“There was the moment on the breakaway where Troy Parrott should have scored and Craig Gordon stood up and made a great save. It was a tame effort from Troy, he should have scored and put Ireland back ahead.
“Then Scotland managed to pass that and get a big three points.”

PARROTT STRUGGLING TO LIVE UP TO EXPECTATIONS
There was a lot of hype around Parrott when he was coming through Tottenham’s ranks as a teenager, but so far, his loan spells aren’t going to plan.
Two seasons ago, he played 11 Championship games for Millwall, struggling to score, before returning to Spurs and then being loaned out to League One during the January transfer window.
Last season, he netted eight goals and helped MK Dons to the League One play-offs, only to lose out to Wycombe in the semi-finals.
And since then, he has returned to the Championship, but this time in Preston colours, and once again, he is yet to open his account in England’s second-tier.
It’s not ideal for the versatile forward, but he only needs to look at a certain Harry Kane for inspiration because he didn’t exactly blow the house down during his loan spells, so there is still every chance he can progress.
