Rangers made a major announcement regarding Glen Kamara this afternoon.

The Gers have confirmed that the Finland international has signed a new contract until 2025 at Ibrox.

The former Arsenal midfielder’s last contract was due to expire in the summer of 2023, meaning this two-year extension is a big boost for Rangers.

Here’s how Tam McManus reacted to the news, telling PLZ Soccer: “It was very important he didn’t go into the last year of his contract, when they could’ve lost him for a cut price. I think it’s fantastic news. It’s great for Scottish football. You want to see the best players stay here and Glen Kamara is one of the best midfield players in Scotland.”

Huge

This is great work from Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson at Rangers.

The Ibrox outfit will more than likely be in the reckoning to qualify for the Champions League next summer and there’s a chance they could get there.

Thing is, Kamara would’ve been going into the final year of his contract and to lose such a good player for a cut-price fee next summer, when the Rangers’ hierarchy would’ve had a difficult decision to make, would’ve been awful.

But this new deal safeguards Rangers in a big way because let’s not forget, he was being linked with a move to Arsenal at various points during the 2021 summer window.

That right there illustrates his quality and only serves to underline what a big deal this is.
