Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers look set to lose centre-back Danny Wilson.
Tam McManus has written in The Herald Scotland that Danny Wilson has “made a great decision” as the Rangers defender looks set for a move to Major League Soccer.
That was certainly strengthened when Rangers boss Graeme Murty omitted him from the squad for Sunday’s 2-1 win away to Ross County.
It appears as if it’s close to being a done deal and the move will undoubtedly surprise many in the Premiership.
The Scottish centre-back has been in good form for Rangers these past few months and, given he is only 26, surely has a lot more to offer the Ibrox side this season and beyond.
But BBC pundit McManus, who also plyed his trade with the Rapids once upon a time, has praised Wilson’s decision and believes he won’t regret it one bit.
“Danny Wilson’s impending move from Rangers to Colorado Rapids in the MLS seems to have raised a few eyebrows here in Scotland among many fans not only at Rangers but also elsewhere in the country,” he told Herald Scotland.
“Wilson had been in great form of late and it was widely anticipated that he would sign a new deal to stay in Glasgow. But he has decided on something completely different and I personally think he has made a great decision.
“Others won’t agree. ‘Why is he going to America at the peak of his career at 26 to a graveyard for ageing pros,’ seems to be the gist of it. The ignorance of some in my opinion has reached English Premiership proportions in terms of the MLS. But certainly not from me. I think he is moving to what is overall a better league than the Scottish Premiership with better facilities by a country mile.”
Rangers’ capture of Russell Martin is likely to have pushed Wilson closer to the exit door at Ibrox.
