Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths is criticised strongly by Tam McManus.

Former Hibernian forward Tam McManus has criticised Celtic star Leigh Griffiths in The Herald.

The 36-year-old former Dundee and Dunfermline Athletic man was not impressed with the Scotland international’s striker’s action at the end of the game against Linfield last week.

Celtic got the better of NIFL Premiership club 2-0 away from home at Windsor Park in Belfast in the first leg of the Champions League second qualifying round last Friday.

Scott Sinclair put Brendan Rodgers’s side in the lead after just 17 minutes, and Tom Rogic doubled the advantage for the visiting team midway through the first half.

After the match was over, Celtic striker Griffiths tied a scarf to a goalpost. According to BBC Sport, the 26-year-old former Dundee and Wolverhampton Wanderers man, who is one of the best players for the Hoops and in the Scottish Premiership, has been charged with “provoking spectators”.

Former Hibernian forward McManus has strongly criticised the Celtic star for his action.

Celtic's Leigh Griffiths looks dejected after a missed chance

“For all that I have no problem with Griffiths’ 5-1 gesture, the same can’t be said of his decision to run up and tie a scarf to a goalpost at the end of the match,” McManus wrote in The Herald.

“That is trying to antagonise people and is actually, in my eyes, disrespectful. He didn’t have to do that and he should cut it out. Celtic did the job. Just leave it at that.”

The second leg of the Champions League second qualifying round tie between Celtic and Linfield is at Celtic Park in Glasgow on Wednesday evening.

With Celtic having a 2-0 lead from the first leg, the Scottish Premiership giants should progress into the third qualifying round with ease.
