Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has been in red-hot form for both club and country this season.
Tam McManus has warned Celtic that they won’t win the title if they lose Odsonne Edouard in January, as his form, for both club and country continues to rise.
The 21-year-old netted a hat-trick for France U21’s on Tuesday, with McManus claiming that the ‘big clubs’ will be ‘sniffing about’ for his signature.
Moussa Dembele was the last striker to thrive at Parkhead, and it seems as though Celtic have found yet another talent who could make them a huge profit in the future.
Speaking to PLZ Soccer (16/10/2019), former Premiership player McManus thinks that Celtic’s title hopes are pinned on Edouard, who is the ‘most important’ player at the club right now.
“Nine goals in four games for France’s U21’s,” McManus told PLZ Soccer. “I think he is a player Celtic can’t afford to lose any time soon. He is the most important player at Parkhead. I think if they lost him, you got Bayo to come in, I don’t fancy him and Leigh Griffiths is still having issues.
“It’s very important they keep hold of him if they want to win the league this season. There will be big clubs sniffing about. £20 million for Dembele, I think you are looking at a similar fee for Edouard.”
Over the course of the season, Edouard has played 17 games in all competitions for Celtic, scoring nine goals and supplying his teammates with five assists [transfermarkt].
There’s no doubt that those numbers will rise at a rapid rate in these next few months, but from Celtic’s perspective, they will be hoping it doesn’t draw too much attention.
Whilst Celtic won’t be too fussed about losing their star man anytime soon, just like Kieran Tierney’s move to Arsenal in the summer, the Bhoys simply cannot compete on a financial level with some European clubs.
