Ray Parlour said on talkSPORT (7:40am, August 28, 2020) that leaving Arsenal for Wolverhampton Wanderers would suit Ainsley Maitland-Niles, with Matt Doherty reportedly set to join Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham have agreed a deal with Premier League rivals Wolves to sign Doherty.

The 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international, who can operate as a right-back, right wing-back or left wing-back, will reportedly undergo a medical this weekend and then move to Spurs for £15 million.

Sky Sports have reported that Wolves are interested in signing Maitland-Niles, and although they have had a bid of £15 million turned down by Arsenal, the two clubs are still in talks.

Maitland-Niles can operate as a midfielder, winger, full-back or wing-back, and the 23-year-old is likely to play as a right-back if he joins Wolves.

Former Arsenal midfielder Parlour believes that it would suit Maitland-Niles – who turns 23 today – to leave the Gunners and join Wolves.

Parlour said on talkSPORT (7:40am, August 28, 2020): “That would be a decent deal for both parties if he went because Doherty is obviously going to Spurs now, isn’t he?

“There is a place for him at right-back if he wanted to play there. I think that will suit him, as a right wing-back for Wolves if Maitland-Niles did leave.”

Sensible move?

Maitland-Niles is a very good and promising young player who would do well under Wolves manager Nuno.

The 23-year-old did well as a right-back for Arsenal last season, and his ability to play further forward and his talent would see him flourish at the Wanderers.
