The former Chelsea and Aston Villa striker – who now works as a pundit for talkSPORT – made the suggestion when asked about Deeney potentially going to Tottenham in the summer transfer window.
The Daily Mail reported on September 1 that Tottenham are interested in signing the English striker from Watford this summer.
West Bromwich Albion, who will play in the Premier League this season after winning automatic promotion from the Championship, are also reported to hold an interest in the 32-year-old striker.
Deeney himself has told The Sun that he thinks that he is good enough to play for a club in the Premier League despite being relegated with Watford.
Cascarino said on talkSPORT (7:26am, September 5, 2020) when asked if Tottenham or West Brom would be good options for Deeney: “I was thinking of Sheffield United maybe. They love a leader of the line, challenge McBurnie.”
Tottenham Hotspur or Sheffield United?
There is no suggestion yet that United are interested in Deeney, but one suspects that if the Blades were interested in him, then the 32-year-old striker would pick Tottenham over Chris Wilder’s side.
Spurs are a bigger club, and they will also be looking to challenge for a top-four place in the Premier League table under head coach Jose Mourinho.
