Darren Bent has backed and ‘understands’ why James Tarkowski has decided to ‘sunb’ a move to West Ham, as he told talkSPORT (06/09/20 at 4:40 pm).
The Times have claimed that the Hammers are interested in the Burnley centre-back and have submitted a bid of £22 million for his services.
This isn’t long after the club sold highly-rated academy product Grady Diangana to West Brom for a fee rising to £18 million [Evening Stantard].
Bent touched upon the ‘uproar’ in East London because of the Diangana sale and why he can ‘fully understands’ Tarkowski opting to stay in his current surroundings.
“It’s difficult because there’s uproar with the whole tweet from Mark Noble and them selling Diangana,” Bent told talkSPORT. “I can understand why Tarkowski would snub a move to West Ham because he is at Burnley and he is playing really, really well.
“They have got a trio, haven’t they? There’s Ben Mee, him and Pope behind. And I quite like that little triangle there. But I can fully understand it.
“But for £20 million as well for Tarkowski, surely there would be more than one club going in for him? For me, that’s not a lot of money at all, especially in today’s current market.”
West Ham’s record transfers
- Sebastien Haller
£45 million
- Felipe Anderson
£41.5 million
- Marko Arnautovic
£25 million
- Pablo Fornals
£24 million
- Issa Diop
£22 million
The West Ham boards decision to sell Diangana is one that has a large selection of their fans angry and annoyed.
Whilst David Moyes’ side are a bit top-heavy in the final third, and do need more defensive options, selling Diangana wasn’t the way to go about things.
Now there is serious pressure on the shoulders of those in the West Ham boardroom and a player like Tarkowski would ease the chaos that is seemingly erupting in East London.
