Jamie O’Hara has claimed on TalkSport Breakfast (22/09/20 at 7:45 am) that Tottenham haven’t replaced Fernando Llorente given that he was happy to play ‘second fiddle’ to Harry Kane.

Last summer, Spurs opted against offering the experienced Spanish target-man a new contract in North London and he left on a free transfer.

Whilst Llorente wasn’t a key player for Spurs, he was a useful player because when Harry Kane would suffer his annual injury, he would step in.

Former Spurs midfielder O’Hara stated that the 35-year-old was a ‘brilliant player’ during his time at the club.

“Llorente, for me, was a brilliant player for Spurs,” O’Hara told TalkSport. “Everyone keeps talking about Harry Kane.

“We never replaced Llorente because he was happy to play second fiddle to Harry Kane.

“But when he played, he was decent. He scored goals, he held the ball up and scored important goals at important moments. They are the types of players that you actually need at a football club.”

  3. Matt Doherty

  4. Sergio Reguilon

    £25 million; Real Madrid

  5. Gareth Bale

  6. Carlos Vinicius

  7. Joe Rodon

Llorente played 66 matches in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino, including seven league starts, as he scored 13 goals and supplied six assists for his teammates [transfermarkt].

It’s quite clear that if Spurs want to get back to Champions League football then they have to bulk up their squad and ease the pressure off Kane’s shoulders.

The return of a certain Gareth Bale helps them along the way, but with him still battling for fitness, it’s quite clear that more added quality and depth will be needed.
