Jamie O’Hara told talkSPORT that the ‘excellent’ Japhet Tanganga ‘needs to play more’ for Tottenham.
The Spurs academy product has been reduced to only one Premier League start this season – because of injuries and Jose Mourinho opting to put other players ahead of him.
On Saturday, Tanganga started Tottenham’s defeat at Man City, with Mourinho playing the natural centre-back as a right-sided fullback.
O’Hara felt that the Spurs youngster was a rare standout performer during that game and he wants to see more of the player.
“I thought Tanganga was excellent (against Man City),” said O’Hara. “He was the only player in a Spurs side who played very well.
“So, he needs to be playing more. But the rest of them are so below what they are capable of.”

There could be the argument that Mourinho should play Tanganga at the heart of Tottenham’s defence because no-one is really taking that position by the scruff of the neck.
Eric Dier recently gave away a costly penalty against Chelsea, Davinson Sanchez was falling flat on his face against Man City, whilst Toby Alderweireld is coming towards the end of his career and is in and out of this Spurs XI.
Therefore, it could be argued that Tanganga deserves a shot at the heart of Tottenham’s defence because it’s not just one place up for grabs, but two.
