Celtic are reportedly still hoping to sign Tom Rogic to a new contract.

According to the Daily Mail, Celtic remain in talks with the agent of playmaker Tom Rogic in an attempt to secure a new deal for him before the World Cup.

Rogic, 25, started out slowly with Celtic following a 2013 move from Central Coast Mariners in his native Australia, as he made just 15 appearances in his first two-and-a-half-years with the Bhoys.

Now though, Rogic is a key part of the Celtic side, hitting 22 goals in his last two seasons and another two this term, though he has found consistent football a little harder to come by this season.

Despite that, Celtic are allegedly pushing to sign Rogic to a new deal, amid claims from The World Game in Australia that the playmaker has turned down a new deal and could leave Celtic Park when his current deal expires in less than 18 months.

World Cup potentially key

It’s noted that the World Cup could be key, as Rogic can use the tournament in Russia this summer to put himself in the shop window, especially as he would have less than a year left on his deal with Celtic.

Rogic may look to impress against France, Peru and Denmark in the group stage of the competition and see what offers come in, leaving Celtic desperate to get a deal done before the tournament begins this summer.

The repot claims that Celtic remain in talks with agent Daniel Berman over striking a deal, but with allegedly poor terms and a major hit to his playing time – especially after manager Brendan Rodgers signed Charly Musonda in January – Rogic may have one eye on an exit.

With the prospect of losing Rogic for free in 2019 looming large, Celtic will be pushing desperately to tie Rogic down to a new contract before the World Cup, or risk losing him this summer.
