Amiens are continuing discussions with a number of English clubs for Crystal Palace and West Ham United target Serhou Guirassy, president Bernard Joannin has told Courier Picard.

As Tim Krul will tell you, there is only so much one player can do.

And, like the overworked Norwich City goalkeeper, Guirassy’s heroics counted for very little in the end as his Amiens side were relegated from Ligue 1, albeit in controversial circumstances as the French football season was decided on a points-per-game basis.

Guirassy, the £18 million-rated centre-forward, scored nine times in 23 matches last season. Even that was not enough to save his side from the drop.

Speaking to ButFootballClub last month, Joannin confirmed that Crystal Palace and West Ham were just two of the clubs asking about a deal for the one-time Cologne youngster.

The Amiens president did not name names this time around – but he did admit that talks over a move to the Premier League are ongoing.

“Serhou Guirassy has an exit voucher and talks are continuing with many French and English clubs. I do not know what day but he will leave but we will replace him,” Joannin says.

Michail Antonio might have scored eight times in the final season games of the season, including four against Norwich, but the converted winger is surely no long-term solution for West Ham’s striker problems.

Guirassy, a rangy, 6ft 2ins centre-forward who should only improve at the age of 24, would be a far more natural fit through the middle.

West Ham first held talks with Guirassy back in January (Sky).

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, scored just 31 goals in 38 Premier League games last season and are crying out for a man capable of replacing the bumbling Christian Benteke in the number nine spot.
