Jamie Carragher has stated that Gini Wijnaldum’s brace for PSG will do him ‘the world of good’ following his struggles after leaving Liverpool, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (03/11/21 at 10:10 pm).
On Wednesday night, whilst Liverpool were beating Atletico Madrid 2-0 in the Champions League, their former player was netting a brace in Germany.
Wijnaldum’s first goals for Mauricio Pochettino side helped them record a 2-2 draw against RB Leipzig – although, they would have been kicking themselves at the stoppage-time equaliser they conceded.
Since leaving Liverpool on a free transfer, things haven’t exactly been rosy in the garden over in Paris for Wijnaldum.
The 30-year-old hasn’t been a regular – starting just seven games in all competitions since joining.
But Carragher was seemingly pleased with his recent display and spoke about how there was talk about him possibly coming back to Merseyside given his current situation.
“Gini Wijnaldum, that will do him the world of good, in terms of confidence because he hasn’t started well enough at PSG, ” said Carragher.
“There was actually talk of him coming back to Liverpool in the January transfer window, if he wasn’t getting more games or making more of an impact.
“But, to get two goals in the Champions League group stages that may cement him in that position.”

That ship of Wijnaldum re-joining Liverpool has sailed and his story with the Reds is written and finished.
It needs to be remembered that his departure wasn’t a case of Liverpool selling him off and not wanting him.
But the two parties not being able to agree on a new contract for the Dutchman, and in truth, he has probably missed Liverpool more than they have missed him.
The likes of Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Naby Keita have thrived in the midfield role since he left, although injuries have cruelly affected their chances of really putting their foot on the accelerator.
