Sunderland target Mateo Bajamich has sealed his protracted move to the MLS, with Houston Dynamo confirming the arrival of a ‘talented young player’, as reported by AS.
In truth, the Black Cats never appeared to have much luck on their side in a long-standing pursuit of the highly-rated Argentine.
Phil Parkinson was enthused by the prospect of luring Bajamich – an ‘exciting’ prospect blessed with explosive pace – to the Stadium of Light (Chronicle).
But, once Houston Dynamo doubled the £500,000 offer put on the table by the League One outfit, Bajamich was always likely to be on his way to Texas rather than Wearside.
“After a long process, we are pleased to welcome Mateo Bajamich to the Houston Dynamo,” says Matt Jordan, Houston Dynamo’s VP and general manager.
“Mateo is a talented young player who can create chances and score goals in the final third, while showing his willingness to work defensively. We are confident that Mateo will find an environment in our club and our staff to develop and grow while helping the team to be successful.”
AS adds that Bajamich, who scored nine goals in his breakthrough season for Instituto, has signed a four-year deal after a fee of around £1 million was agreed between two clubs on either side of Central America.
Sunderland have four proven League One goal-scorers in their ranks in the shape of Will Grigg, Charlie Wyke, Danny Graham and Aiden O’Brien.
But the shot-shy Black Cats have found the net just four times in their first four games of 2019/20, drawing a blank against Charlton on Saturday.
