Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy wants to join Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers in the summer transfer window, according to The Glasgow Evening Times.

It has been reported that Rangers are interested in bringing Murphy to Ibrox on a loan deal this summer.

The 25-year-old winger himself wants to move to Rangers, but his club Newcastle want him to stay and fight for his place, according to the report.

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce recently told The Chronicle that if Murphy – and Dan Barlaser – do not get enough playing time, then the Magpies “will have to let them out again”.

Moving to Rangers

The summer transfer window will run until October, and there is no rush for Newcastle to make a decision on the future of the 25-year-old right now.

A move to Rangers would be massive for the winger, who was described as a “talented player” by then Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez on BBC Sport in July 2017.

However, the former Norwich City winger needs to make sure that he will at least stand a chance of playing regular first-team football at Rangers.
