West Ham have reportedly set their sights on AFC Bournemouth star Lloyd Kelly, with David Moyes eager to sign a defender in the January window.
The Telegraph report that the Irons have identified the former Bristol City defender as a potential target in the New Year. West Ham have both Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma out with long-term injuries, and as a result, a centre-back is top of the Hammers January wishlist.
With Kelly playing a starring role for Scott Parker’s side this season, the young defender has caught the eye of clubs in the Premier League. The 23-year-old has captained the Cherries on multiple occasions, as well.
Indeed, Bournemouth signed the England youth international in 2019 for a reported £13m according to Sky Sports News. And with West Ham now on Kelly’s tail, the south coast side will likely ask for a big fee for their star defender.
With a defender needed in January, Kelly could be an excellent addition to the Hammers both to ease the current injury crisis as well as become a key part of the squad for the long term.
At 23, Kelly is younger than all of West Ham’s current centre-backs, and supporters on social media are eager for the club to sign the Championship star in January.
