Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after the Daily Mail revealed that Mike Ashley plans to close the club shop, and make all staff redundant.

The Daily Mail add that Ashley has informed staff members that the new owners do not wish to keep them.

As a result of this decision, the Sports Direct-owned store is now likely to return to the club.

Castore are set to be Newcastle’s new kit suppliers, and they will stock the refurbished store.

Interestingly, the Daily Mail mention that insiders believe this is a key development in the £300 million Saudi-led takeover.

According to Craig Hope’s report, this change was among the conditions of the Saudi’s takeover. Now it has been granted, it will be intriguing to see what happens.

The Daily Mail also mention that Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers – among other members of the consortium – remain committed to the takeover.

After the Premier League blocked the £300 million takeover in the summer, it went to High Court arbitration – Hope says the result of that private hearing is yet to be revealed.

Ashley is said to be hopeful of a positive outcome. If there is one, the Daily Mail say the takeover would then be finalised swiftly.
