Newcastle United are currently in limbo.

Newcastle United fans are anxiously waiting to hear whether the club’s proposed takeover will go through.

It is now a week since reports emerged claiming the Toon were close to being sold. Now The Sun report it could drag on, with Sheikh Khaled ‘ready to play the long game’.

This sets Newcastle up for weeks of delays, at a terrible time.

The uncertainty is not helping manager Rafa Benitez make an informed decision over his future.

Nor will it assist the club in setting a transfer budget and signing players.

This summer more than last year, it could be critical.

Last year the World Cup restricted transfer activity in June, with many top clubs around Europe holding off on activity until the close of the tournament.

This June looks set to be busier, and Newcastle could be sat on the sidelines, watching potential targets move elsewhere.

This could be costly for the club heading into next season, affecting their pre-season, and leaving them with a late scramble to sign players, many of who could be their back up options.

The quicker the takeover goes through, or collapses, the better for everybody.
