Eddie Howe told Optus Sport on Premier League Productions on Monday night that Jose Mourinho will be ‘really hurt’ after being sacked by Tottenham.

In a ruthless call by Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy, he pulled no punches and parted ways with Mourinho even though there is a League Cup final on Sunday.

Given Levy’s desperation to deliver a trophy for Spurs, things must have been pretty bad for the Englishman to pull the plug in such a manner.

Howe shared his thoughts on Mourinho’s sacking and how the chance for him to win another domestic trophy has been ‘taken away from him’.

On whether Mourinho would have been surprised: “It’s a difficult question to answer from the outside,” said Howe.

“But having managed against him. The aura the man has. He has a real presence. And his track record speaks for himself.

“I am sure he would have been licking his lips at a chance to go against Manchester City, win a cup competition and then answer his critics that way.

“I think that’s been taken away from him. And I think that will really hurt him.”

It was fitting for Mourinho that Harry Kane was the one who scored the final goals of his reign at Spurs.

There’s no doubt that the England captain was a standout performer for Mourinho and producing the best performances of his career, so far.

And whilst Mourinho will be absent at Wembley on Sunday, Spurs fans will be hoping that Kane is fit and available after his injury scare on Friday against Everton.
