Jason Cundy has told Tottenham Hotspur that they simply shouldn’t sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku if that opportunity came about.

If Harry Kane stays at Tottenham beyond this summer, then Ange Postecoglou has the best striker in the Premier League to work with, but if he leaves, then life will be very, very difficult for him.

But when Cundy was discussing how a return to Inter for Romelu Lukaku looks off the cards, he asked his Tottenham-supporting colleague whether he would take the 30-year-old at Spurs.

The response from the former Chelsea player was pretty simple ‘take some advice, don’t’, as he told talkSPORT.

If Lukaku doesn’t return to Italy next season, then he has to question where his future lies because it doesn’t seem as though it will be at Stamford Bridge, even though they have a new manager in charge in Mauricio Pochettino.

Of course, for now, he still has to report back to Chelsea with pre-season underway, but, aside from Italy, it seems as though his options are limited.

“Romelu Lukaku’s career is up in the air with sources claiming that his move to Inter is off,” said Cundy. “So, what does he do now? Where does he go now? Would you take him at your club? Would you have him at Spurs?

“What?! You would take him?! If Kane goes would you have Lukaku? (Cundy asks his Tottenham-supporting colleague who hints that he would). Take some advice, don’t!”

Does Lukaku need to take a step down?

It worked ever so well for the £325k-a-week star (Spotrac) during his first spell at Inter, but the same can’t be said for the previous campaign.

Yes, injuries didn’t help, but those missed chances as Belgium were knocked out of the group stages of the 2022 Qatar World Cup were nightmare moments for the player.

And somehow, Lukaku topped it off by repeating all of that, this time in the dying moments of Manchester City’s win in the Champions League final.

If Lukaku doesn’t return to Italy next season, then he might have to take a step down in his career.
