James Rodriguez helped Bayern Munich storm to the Bundesliga title last season.

The fact that Liverpool stormed to the Champions League final in the second half of last season, swatting Manchester City and Roma aside, was impressive enough. The fact that they did it without Philippe Coutinho, who left for Barcelona in January, made the achievement quite remarkable.

But Liverpool’s inability to replace the Brazilian playmaker has started to show in recent months.

Yes, The Reds are still unbeaten in the Premier League but Jurgen Klopp’s charges appear to be lacking that dash of unpredictability or that spark in attack that set them aside throughout a thrilling 2017/18 campaign.

So if Liverpool want to go to the next level, to become title winners rather than nearly-men, they should be on red alert with James Rodriguez reportedly set to become available in the near future.

According to Kicker, Bayern Munich are set to waive their right to sign the Colombian number 10 for £38 million once his two-year loan spell from Real Madrid comes to an end, with Eintracht Frankfurt’s 12-goal phenomenon Luka Jovic lined up as his replacement.

And with James’ future at Real Madrid seemingly up in the air too, Liverpool might never get a better opportunity to sign a proven, genuinely top tier talent to fill the considerable void left by Coutinho.

James, World Cup Golden Boot winner in 2014, a player who assisted 14 goals last season, would add that touch of class and inspiration that Liverpool’s workmanlike midfield are missing.
