Jose Enrique has called for midfielder Thiago Alcantara to be sold by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool this summer amid his injury record at the Premier League club.

The 32-year-old has 12 months left to run on his Liverpool contract and Enrique posted on his Instagram story that, whilst he is a ‘top player’, he isn’t reliable and should be sold.

Thiago Alcantara had a number of injury problems this season from hamstring issues to a hip problem and then he spent the last two months on the sidelines.

Over the years, Jurgen Klopp has proven to be very loyal to his players and the club hasn’t sold much, but many have left on free transfers.

Divock Origi, Gini Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana are past examples, whilst Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are going out of the exit door this summer in the same fashion.

When discussing whether Thiago should be handed a new deal at Anfield, Enrique made his feelings pretty clear.

“I love him as a player,” said Enrique. “But I believe if an offer comes in for him, we should take it.

“He is a top player, but most of the time, he is injured. We need more reliable players.”

Thiago doesn’t suit Klopp’s midfield

On the ball, the former Bayern Munich star, who signed for £25 million in 2020 (Sky Sports), is one of the best Liverpool have because of his outstanding vision and quality passing range.

But it could be argued, what you do without the ball for Klopp as a midfielder, is more important than what you do with it.

And it has to be said in a blunt fashion that the Spanish star just doesn’t have the aggression, awareness and no-nonsense style to suffocate opponents from the middle of the park and that affects Liverpool’s play, so with Alexis Mac Allister through the doors, and more to follow, it’s best if Thiago is moved on.
