Rodney Marsh has praised Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk on Twitter following the defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday evening.

The former Manchester City forward has praised the Netherlands international central defender for speaking to the media despite Liverpool’s 7-2 defeat to Villa away from home at Villa Park in the Premier League.

The defending Premier League champions were stunned by Dean Smith’s side, but Van Dijk still spoke to Sky Sports immediately after the match.

Marsh has praised the former Celtic and Southampton star for speaking to the media after the win.

Meanwhile, former Tottenham Hotspur and Everton striker Gary Lineker has given his take on Liverpool’s defensive display last night, while ex-Reds Dejan Lovren has defended the players.

Ex-City winger Trevor Sinclair believes that Liverpool were missing forward Sadio Mane against Villa last night.

Bouncing back

Liverpool have not looked great defensively so far this season, and their performance at the back against Villa was very disappointing indeed.

The Reds will be determined to bounce back from the humiliating loss at the hands of Villa after the two-week international break.
