Danny Murphy says Harry Kane’s legacy at Tottenham Hotspur will be ‘tainted’ if he decides to reunite with Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.
The former Liverpool player spoke about how he once had the chance to join Everton during his career, but opted against it because of his affiliation with the Merseyside club.
But Murphy thinks it’s different for Harry Kane because he has ‘done a lot more than me’ and Tottenham’s all-time record goalscorer will be ‘remembered forever’ for what he has done for the club, as he told talkSPORT (03/07/23 at 6:25 pm).
Chelsea are looking for a number nine this summer and they have been crying out for a regular scorer since the days of Diego Costa.
Added to that, the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino increased talk in the transfer rumour mill of Kane reuniting with his former coach at Stamford Bridge, as reported by The Independent.
But whilst Pochettino doesn’t realise it, the rivalry between Spurs and Chelsea is massive, Kane understands that and that’s why Murphy thinks his status at Hotspur Way will be ‘tainted’ if he makes that switch.

“Kane did a lot more than me,” said Murphy. “He will be remembered forever by Tottenham fans. You don’t score that many goals and be forgotten. But I think it will be tainted (if he joins Chelsea).”

Kane understands the Tottenham-Chelsea rivalry
You just can’t see Kane going down the same road as Pochettino by signing for Chelsea because the £200k-a-week star (Spotrac) understands the verbal beating that will come his way.
Added to that, Daniel Levy also holds the key to Kane’s future and it would be even more crazy if the Spurs chairman accepts any offer from Chelsea for his signature.
Given those obstacles being in place, Chelsea better look elsewhere in their quest to sign Kane this summer.
