Regardless of what happens to John Terry in court, the impact on QPR’s Anton Ferdinand should not be forgotten.
John Terry’s court case will be heard next Monday, and while legal issues prevent us from discussing the in’s and the out’s of the case, the effect the saga has had, or could have on Anton Ferdinand should not be dismissed lightly.
On the 23rd October 2011, a game of football between two rival West London-teams ended with a one nil win to the home team; the first win in over 15 years.
The sad part about it is the game will be remembered for one thing; what John Terry is alleged to have said about Anton Ferdinand.
Anton Ferdinand has been treated by some as the villain when he really hasn’t done a thing wrong; if anything he has behaved like a great professional with dignity throughout.
What a lot of people seem to forget is the alleged victim was not the one who brought this to court; it was a member of the public that complained. From there the police and the CPS have handled it.
When I went to Stamford Bridge for the away return game Anton was treated very badly but like a true professional never complained.
Again a personal view but I think the reason Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand, Anton’s brother, didn’t go to the Euros is because of this ‘incident’ and court case – despite what Roy Hodgson said about ‘footballing reason’. A great shame for a terrific defender.
It is sickening that Anton Ferdinand was sent a bullet in the post. It’s a game of football at the end of the day.
Whatever happens in court, let’s just hope that Anton’s career does not suffer as a result of the saga.
