Despite losing in extra time 1-0 to Argentina, Switzerland took the game to the wire and can leave the competition proud.

Diego Benaglio 8 – Brilliant game from this man, pulled out some really good saves from powerful shots and looked solid on set pieces.

Stephan Lichtsteiner 7 – Looked really good defensively, to the point that Angel Di Maria switched wings.

Fabian Schär 6 – Really struggled against Messi, had a torrid time but kept plugging away to help his team.

Johan Djourou 7 – Great performance from the former Arsenal man, defended well and showed great skill to get out of tricky situations.

Ricardo Rodríguez 7 – Played well going forward and running back, skipped past players and drew fouls when Switzerland needed them.

Gökhan Inler – Battled well throughout the game but was let down by his final ball far too often.

Valon Behrami 5 – To be fair he didn’t stand a chance against Mascherano and Gago and was mostly chasing shadows.

Granit Xhaka 5 – Very lucky to have stayed on the field and really should have scored when he was through on goal.

Xherdan Shaqiri 7 – Put in a shift, showed good skill and flair but the task at hand was just too big.

Admir Mehmedi 5 – After having two previous decent games, failed to make any impact on this one.

Josip Drmić 5 – Should have really scored, that’s the difference, world class players take their chances.
