Xherdan Shaqiri scored three goals that helped secure Switzerland to second place in Group E and a last 16 tie against Argentina.
Switzerland knew before the match they had to win to have a good chance of qualification, and they started the stronger of the two sides.
On 6 minutes, Switzerland took the lead with a stunning individual goal from Xherdan Shaqiri. The Bayern Munich winger collected the ball from a Stephan Lichtsteiner throw in on the right, before coming inside on to his favoured left foot and firing a powerful strike into the goal via the underside of the bar.
His second arrived on 31 minutes through an easier finish. A through ball from Josip Drmic meant Shaqiri was clean through on goal, and a simple finish into the corner doubled the Swiss lead before half time.
Honduras started the second half the strongest as they were pushing for a goal, and their best chance fell to Jerry Bengtson on 52 minutes. The tall striker took the ball round Diego Benaglio but Swiss left-back Ricardo Rodriguez covered his goalkeeper and cleared off the line with some great defending.
That was as close as Honduras come to a goal and on 71 minutes, Shaqiri completed his hat-trick via a team goal from a counter attack.
Drmic again provided the assist as the striker ran from the half way line with the ball and pulled the ball back to the on-rushing midfielder, who calmly slotted the ball into the net.
