Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to rumours that Danny Ings has rejected a new contract at Southampton.
BBC Sport reports that the Englishman was offered a four-year deal, but he has turned that down with one year remaining on his contract.
The situation Southampton are in is something which will be familiar to Arsenal supporters because their club have themselves in many sticky situations like that before.
Nonetheless, Ings’ chances of leaving St Mary’s this summer have just increased and Arsenal fans wouldn’t mind having him on board.
A proven record in the Premier League, Ings has 55 goals from 140 league matches (transfermarkt), which is pretty impressive stats given that he has also had his injury problems during that period.
But it does seem as though his past injury records are biting him back and it seems that’s what is off-putting for some supporters.
For Arsenal, they aren’t exactly in a situation where they can lure the top talents of Europe to the Emirates.
They aren’t in Europe and those in the North London boardroom aren’t exactly known for flexing their financial muscles.
But with Alexandre Lacazette’s future also up in the air, it seems as though some supporters are on board for Ings joining them this summer.
It has been two years since the Saints paid £20 million for Ings’ talents (BBC Sport) and there’s no reason why they wouldn’t want to make a profit on that.
However, that’s where another problem lies because he can be brought in for free next summer, rather than pay an inflated price for a player with one year left on his contract.
One thing is for sure, a fully-fit Ings would get into Arsenal’s starting XI and it will be interesting to see what happens with his future.
He may well end up staying in the South Coast and seeing out his contract, but it does seem as though someone of his talents should be looking to play at a higher level than he’s currently at.
Nonetheless, here is a selection of Arsenal fans reacting to Ings seemingly turning down a new contract:
