Some Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter are warning the club against selling Steven Bergwijn.
The Netherlands international joined Spurs from PSV Eindhoven 18 months ago but has been a mixed addition to the Premier League, it has to be said.
Since joining, the 23-year-old has managed only four goals and four assists in 35 Premier League outings – and one of those goals came on his debut against Manchester City.
According to The Daily Mail, Tottenham could look to move on the player if they recoup their £27 million transfer fee and Ajax are among those reportedly interested.
Here’s how some fans of the North London club reacted to potentially losing him:
Mistake?
It’s hard to argue that Tottenham would be making a mistake because as mentioned, his statistics aren’t very good.
That being said, a lot of Spurs players underperformed during Jose Mourinho’s reign and it seems silly to sell before Bergwijn is tested under a different manager.
Despite poor stats, Bergwijn clearly has a lot of talent and it would be fascinating to see how he would perform under Mourinho’s replacement, whoever that turns out being.
