Speculation is mounting that Marcelo Brozovic to Liverpool could happen this summer.
The Reds have been relatively inactive in this transfer window since signing Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen.
The young Scottish right-back was Liverpool’s third signing of the summer, following Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho to Merseyside.
There’s no doubt that Nunez, at £85 million investment, is Jurgen Klopp’s marquee addition of the transfer window.
In terms of value, however, Brozovic could be the German’s best piece of business.
Marcelo Brozovic to Liverpool ?
According to Calciomercatoweb, as covered by HITC Sport, Liverpool are interested in the Inter Milan midfielder.
The report adds that Klopp could offer Roberto Firmino in a swap deal.
Brilliant as Firmino has been down the years, he’s going to be the Reds’ third-choice number nine this season, behind Nunez and Diogo Jota.
And if Liverpool can offload the 30-year-old, whilst signing a player they desperately need, well it would go down as a blinding piece of business.
Thiago Alcantara added to Klopp’s injury woes on Saturday by going off against Fulham, joining Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones and Naby Keita on the missing list.
And remember, they’re all midfielders.
Although Keita will be available soon, the same cannot be said for the other three.
Midfield is a priority area for Klopp to strengthen suddenly and if they can bring in somebody of Brozovic’s vintage, in exchange for somebody who will effectively be a squad player this season, it’s a cracking deal.
It’s sad, given how phenomenal Firmino has been, but Marcelo Brozovic to Liverpool is better for the club than keeping the South American and not signing anyone in midfield.
