Swansea’s Tom Carroll will face former club Tottenham on Wednesday.
Swansea City’s Tom Carroll
Swansea City ace Tom Carroll has told the club’s official website that he is still in a WhatsApp group with the Tottenham players – and admits facing them on Wednesday will be ‘strange’.
Carroll, 24, joined Spurs at the age of just eight, and came up through the ranks with the club, emerging in the first team after loan spells with Leyton Orient, Derby County, Queens Park Rangers and Swansea.
With 30 appearances to his name last season, Carroll featured fairly regularly under Mauricio Pochettino, but he was frozen out this term following Victor Wanyama’s arrival, with just three appearances in all competitions.
It was no great surprise when Carroll left Tottenham in January, as he completed a permanent move back to former club Swansea City, with Paul Clement landing the midfielder in his battle against relegation.
Carroll has so far impressed in South Wales, registering two assists in nine games for the club as he finally receives regular first-team football in the Premier League.
On Wednesday, Carroll is set for an emotional evening, as he faces off against Tottenham for the first time since his exit – a major moment for the midfielder having spent 16 years with the club.
Tom Carroll in action for Tottenham
Ahead of the game, Carroll has told the Swansea official website that his reunion with Spurs will be ‘strange’ having had such a long association with the club, as he knows the players and staff so well.
Carroll also revealed that he’s still in a WhatsApp group with the Tottenham squad, but he will be putting friendships to one side in a bid to hand Swansea a surprise win on Wednesday evening.
“It will be strange played against Spurs as I had been there since I was eight,” said Carroll. “I obviously know the players and staff very well. I’m still in a WhatsApp group among the players. But on Wednesday all that matters is getting three points. A win would be a big boost, though we’re well aware how tough it will be,” he added.
