Aston Villa reportedly wanted to sign Leroy Fer from Swansea City on January transfer deadline day.

According to The Sun, Swansea City central midfielder Leroy Fer would have cost Aston Villa £2 million in transfer fees had he made the switch on January transfer deadline day.

It has been reported by the British tabloid that Villa wanted to secure the services of the former Queens Park Ranger star, but the late move collapsed.

The report has also claimed that Swansea face closing the Netherlands international midfielder in the summer of 2019, and that French club Lille are interested.

Back for Leroy Fer?

Given Villa’s reported interest in 29-year-old Fer on January transfer deadline day, perhaps Dean Smith’s side should make a move for the Dutchman at the end of the season.

True, the Villans signed former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Carroll on loan from Swansea on January transfer deadline day, but Fer is a better and more experienced footballer.

According to Transfermarkt.com, Fer is out of contract at Swansea at the end of the season.

Villa are aiming to finish in the top six of the Championship this season, and so are Swansea.
