Not so great for Leeds, but Swansea City should do well out of pulling plug on transfer.
Swansea City came within a whisker of selling Dan James to Leeds United on transfer deadline day.
James was at Leeds to seal a deal, before a last minute change of heart at Swansea’s end caused them to pull the plug.
This decision really angered Leeds, The Telegraph reported. It’s hard to argue though from Swansea’s point of view that they made the wrong choice.
James reacted well to missing out on a switch to the promotion challengers. There was no sulk.
Instead he has got his head down and improved his game.
A disappointing game away to Leeds aside, James has been excellent.
He scored a superb solo goal for Swansea in the FA Cup against Brentford. It was voted ‘goal of the round’ by BBC viewers.
For Wales at the weekend he outshone Gareth Bale by scoring the winner against Slovakia.
Wales Online report Premier League interest is expected in James this summer, whether that includes Leeds or not.
James’ increasing reputation means there could be a bidding war for his services.
Swansea still need to resolve James’ contract. They want him to extend his current deal which expires in 2020.
The Welsh side can still demand a high fee this summer – more than the £5 million they would have received from Leeds.
