The former West Bromwich Albion player faces his old side with Swansea City on Wednesday.

Graham Potter, Manager of Swansea City looks on prior to the Carabao Cup Second Round match between Swansea City and Crystal Palace at Liberty Stadium on August 28, 2018 in Swansea, Wales.

The Swansea City manager Graham Potter has admitted he was not a good West Bromwich Albion player.

Potter, who spent three and a half years on West Brom’s books, welcomes his old side to the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Solihull native made just 43 league appearances in Baggies colours, and was loaned out on three occasions, twice to Northampton Town and once to Reading.

And speaking to Wales Online ahead of the game, he said: “I had three and a half years there. I was not a good player for them, but they are a good club with good people.

“The supporters are fair and I have a lot of respect for them.”

Potter was listed among the bookies’ contenders to be West Brom’s next manager after Alan Pardew’s sacking in April, a position that was later filled by Darren Moore.

And Moore later brought along one of Potter’s former teammates, Graeme Jones, to assist him at the Hawthorns.

Discussing his relationship with Jones, the Swansea boss told the same publication: “We played for Boston United towards the end of our careers.

“We got on, we clicked and shared an interest in coaching. We kept in touch, he ended up here with Roberto and my career went on but we have always been friends and he is a guy I have huge respect for as a person and a coach.

“He has a World Cup bronze medal and an FA Cup medal which not many British coaches have.”
