Swansea City have officially made their worst start to a season for 71 years following the loss to Arsenal.

Swansea City fans are well aware that things have not been going their way this season, however they may not have known the historical magnitude of the situation following their 3-2 loss to Arsenal at the weekend. As reported by Wales Online, the Swans have now made their worst start to a campaign since the Second World War.
The clash at the Emirates saw the Welsh side slip to their fourth consecutive defeat in the league, which is the first time that has happened since their first season back in the top flight.
The first eight games of the 1945/46 season is the only example in which they have fared as badly, with the sheer size of the task at the Liberty Stadium now dawning upon new American manager Bob Bradley.

Despite this, the history books do suggest that not all hope is lost. Of the 25 teams in the past that have picked up four or less points in their first eight games, 12 of them have gone on to survive and avoid relegation.
Whilst statistics do not necessarily always show the entire story, it does prove that no matter how you start off the campaign it is always important to finish strong as you never know what could happen.
Sides like Wigan and Sunderland have proven on numerous occasions in the past that late runs of good form can be beneficial, and with the quality at Swansea’s disposal they need to remain calm and focus on the task at hand.
